  • forensicsandpathology: Cerebral infarct (stroke). This section of brain shows hemorrhage in the white matter. The patient had a history of hypertension. The patient’s hypertension resulted in atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Fat and cholesterol built up along the walls of the blood vessels and, when one of these pieces broke off, it resulted in a stroke. This would cause a blockage in the blood flow to the brain, and thus the vessel ruptured and caused the haemorrhaging pictured.
